This past weekend was exhausting and really fun. We shot the video for the new song “Your Child” which I wrote to honor the love of family, and specifically for special needs families.

Videos are hard because there is so much work to organize it all before you get to the shoot days, and then the days are very long and you have to really hope you haven’t forgotten anything. Before the weekend, we had to line up all the families and shoot locations, all the equipment and set out the timing, and then think through props and colors for outfits and backgrounds and take pictures of everything to send to the director so he could coordinate and think through his shots.

We used Jeff Kubach again to direct this video. I worked with him on “God Loved the World” and “Life Not Typical.” He’s a great guy, and he is wonderful at interpreting my ideas into the visual medium and telling the story beautifully. It’s just a pleasure to work with him. It was harder to figure out this video, though, because Jeff has moved to Miami to work on “Burn Notice” and between his schedule and mine, finding several days together that would work was pretty impossible. We found this weekend, though, and had to schedule our shoot days tightly because time was short, but we were able to get it all in.

I’m really proud of this video and can’t wait to see the early edits – the footage looked great. The best part of it for me, though, was working with the special needs families and others who volunteered their time to help make this happen. One of the families offered their home as a shoot location because they are set up for special needs kids, and we spent the day there with the families coming for different parts of the day to do their scenes. The hospitality of our host family (thank you so much, Romona and Gary!) and just the fun of working with so many amazing families all day really made my weekend. I’m just blessed to get to work with the kind of people I do – God’s family is awesome.

I can’t wait to share this with you! We’ve already had interest from so many groups such as Autism Speaks, the SPD Foundation, and Joni and Friends, and I am so excited to see how God will use this!

    Hello Jennifer,

I must say I am very happy/excited/honored that I was able to be a part of this video-making process. I have worked with the Dodd family for a little under a year now and have been so blessed to help encourage and initiate independence for Samuel. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to provide knowledge to those who may not understand the hardships (and joys) of living with a child with special needs, and the ability to spread awareness to those around us. If you have any copies of photos from that day, I would love to see them!

    Thanks again,
    Samantha

Hi, Samantha, thanks for being a part of it! I really had such an amazing day when we were filming the kids and families. The Dodds are very special people and I know they appreciate you! I sent Romona some pictures of Samuel’s shots – I will try to find the email and forward it to you.
